In fact, when it was first established, it was called the “Upper Elementary School for Girls.” Remarkably, this secular school had a boarding facility—the first of its kind in France.
It has a rich history that deserves to be told and known. With the creation of this middle school, Pierre Flamens and his city council deliberately aligned themselves with a movement promoting women’s emancipation through education.
