Immerse yourself in history and heritage at the charming Moulin de Théoule, a nugget nestling on the right bank of the Gimone.
Built in the 15th century by the Cistercian monks ofBelleperche Abbey, this singular edifice boasts astonishing architecture.
Unlike traditional wooden mills, the Moulin de Théoule stands out for its fortified construction in local brick. With its two corbelled turrets and loopholes, it looks like a small medieval manor house.
Next to it, the "Pont des Ânes", a dam-bridge built over the river, unfurls its 11 basket-handle arches.
Once used to grind flour for the vast agricultural estates of Belleperche Abbey, the mill has evolved with the times.
In the 20th century, it was already equipped with turbines to produceelectricity. Although it stopped working in 1952, its restoration and classification as a Historic Monument in 1984 have preserved this treasure for future generations.
Privately owned, the Moulin de Théoule is nonetheless open to the admiration of walkers along the Route Départementale 99, nicknamed the "Windmill Route".
This picturesque spot, taken by painters and photographers, offers an idyllic setting for immortalising the beauty of the Tarn-et-Garonne countryside.
From the D99 towards Lafitte, the mill is on your left near the junction for Garganvillar.
Outdoor visit only.
