Gerard Cassé (Ferronnier d'art)

Description

It was by falling heavily from one floor that Gérard's artistic destiny was born ... Professional welder and boilermaker, nothing, except his golden fingers, predestined him to become an artist. Fate will decide for him. It is, indeed, a heavy fall which literally makes him fall into sculpture. "By rehabilitating my house, I fell one floor and I broke my ankle," says Gérard. The Castelsarrasinois can no longer exult her energy, he is looking for another way to channel it: it will be art. “With a year off work, eight ankle operations, I was depressed and going around in circles. I started to tinker in my workshop. Little by little, the boilermaker-welder, refines his work alongside Jean-Marc, an experienced artist from Cordes-sur-Ciel, and, later, from Tarnais Casimir Ferrer. “Their criticisms and suggestions have allowed me to progress. Especially to believe in what I was doing. It was however by leaving his native land that the Castelsarrasinois finished his apprenticeship and took off in artistic terms.“After twenty-five years as a welder in the army's gasoline service, I wanted to change my air. I left for Dakar, on behalf of a hydrocarbon exploitation company. »A four-year African parenthesis that deeply upsets the artist and the man. “On site I created a workshop with three times nothing: an anvil and a burr. I worked African style (laughs). "Quickly, I was lucky to be able to be in contact with the leading sculptors, like Babacarniang and especially Kalidou Kassé. »Meetings that allow him to be in residence in the arts village. exhibit at the Dakar Biennale and see several of his creations enthroned in emblematic places of the Senegalese capital. “These artists have opened up new avenues for me by allowing me to learn how to work in stone, wood or bronze. " Gérard Cassé's works More refined, and above all symbolic. After retiring from military service in order to carry out his desire to build a house abroad, he decides that it will be Thailand. Pending departure, the Castelsarrasinois is embarking on the renovation of a house where there are only the walls. He will finish this work within 8 months with the help of many loyal friends.
