Description
Singing Mary at the time of the Albigensian Crusade.
The program will feature one of Alfonso II's songs "el Casto", Thibault de Champagne's Marian song "De chanter ne me puis tenir", and Guirault Riquier's supplique to the "Roi Sage". Around these historical landmarks, several Cantigas will provide an opportunity to examine the specific features of the collections assembled on the initiative of the "Roi Sage", and their links with other contemporary forms. The program will also feature a number of Sephardic pieces, testifying to the political tension at the heart of the Castilian "Wise King's" artistic choices.
