The canal lateral to the river Garonne

The Canal des deux Mers allows you to cycle from Bordeaux to Sète. The Green Cycle path provides 200 km of tracks for cyclists and hikers. The continuation of the Canal du Midi was built in the 19th century between Toulouse and Bordeaux and named the Canal lateral to the river Garonne. From our zone, Terres des confluences, you can get to the Canal from Moissac, Castelsarrasin or Saint Porquier. Discover some stages to follow: 

 

Moissac/Valence d’Agen (16.5 km)

Between the Canal and the river Tarn, you can cycle in the shade, following part of the way to Santiago de Compostela. You start from the marina located in the centre of the town.


Moissac / Castelsarrasin / Montech / Montauban [23 km]

Leave Moissac along the Canal via the Cacor canal bridge. You will arrive in Castelsarrasin ancient strong hold of the Count of Toulouse. From its marina discover the town and its turbulent history. Do not forget the beautiful brick church of Saint Sauveur. A circuit map is available from the marina office.

The canal is the safest place to cycle with children. Indeed, there is no motorised vehicules and it is  shaded. Perfect for your little one, learning the pleasure of cycling.

If you are looking for fun why not the Bike Park in Castelsarrasin, new and near the canal.

CIRCUITS AROUND THE ORCHARDS OF MOISSAC (8,5 KM)

Known for its cloister inscribed is on the UNESCO World Heritage list due to the Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route Moissac is also a town with a nature and agricultural heritage which you will discover cycling across the orchards and cultures, along the river, overthe canal bridge. (from 8 years old, 50% of the cycling on road)

BIRDS SURVEY ROUTE AT THE CONFLUENCE OF THE RIVERS TARN AND GARONNE

Perfect for families, whether on foot or bicycle, this haven of nature, this typical village of the Garonne valley in the heart of this department which was founded by Napoleon. The confluence is a protected zone with numerous small islands giving shelter to numerous migratory birds. Don’t forget your binoculars!
In the village of Saint Nicolas-de-la-Grave, visit the birth place of Antoine de Lamothe-Cadillac who founded the town of Detroit (Michigan - USA).

Thanks to a cycle slope on the Coudol bridge, whether coming from Moissac or Agen along the Canal Cycle Path on the towpath beside the canal, you have easy access to the bird sanctuary circuit. In addition at the Leisure Park there are : playground for children, swimming pool, nautical activities...
